Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity,  with their group of volunteers and local businesses offer a way to have repairs made to the home with the help of a non-profit loan.  Loan can be used for replacing siding, roof, replacing porch or stairs, and other critical home needs.  Information and application for this program can be found on Habitat for Humanity’s website

Massachusetts Home Modification Loan Program

Offers low and no interest loans to modify homes of elders, adults and children with disabilities. Based on household size and income limits, from $1000-$50,000 may be borrowed. Owners of manufactured home may borrow from $1000-$30,000. An HMLP loan may be obtained only one time per property. For more information, please visit the website

Vocation Rehabilitation Program

Adaptive Housing Program at MRC serves consumers with disabilities who are pursuing vocation/employment goals with needs for home modification.  The Adaptive Housing Program provides housing evaluations, architectural services, housing modifications, and equipment installation to individuals with disabilities to enable them to achieve an employment outcome by removing barriers to living in their current home.

Modular ramp systems can be purchased or rented. Reconditioned ramps offer a significant cost reduction. They can be a temporary solution or a long-term solution. When you no longer need the ramp, Able Home will buy it back and do the removal for you. Handicap ramps for home can be placed at the front and back entrances, as well as internally in areas where there are three or four steps between one room and the next. Ramps are not just for seniors who require the use of a wheelchair. They are also useful for those who use walkers or canes for stabilization.  Stairs can create tripping hazards especially if they are improperly lit.  Ramps eliminate that hazard and are easier to navigate.
